AIDS Ride 7 |
(1) Bike parking, Oceano, Day 4. At the end of each day's ride there was a designated parking lot for all the bikes. Take your pick of CrMo, Titanium, tandem, or, of course, recumbent. 2,800 bikes in one spot. |
(2) Tent city, River Park, Lompoc, Day 5. Row after row of tents supplied by the ride staff. Cyclists were responsible for setting up and breaking down their own tent each day, regardless of how tired you were. Often, we helped each other. No tent was sealed for rain, so we got very wet several mornings. |
(3) Gear trucks, Paso Robles, Day 4. These trucks hauled everyone's baggage between tent cities: clothes, sleeping bag, and toiletries. They also carried tents, pit stop supplies, and other heavier necessities for the route. |
(4) Mobile showers, Oceano, Day 4. Showers with hot water were available at each campsite. Giant tractor trailer trucks provided the stall showers inside, and sinks outside. Port-a-johns were located separately. |
(5) Giant water trucks serviced the showers. Thousands of gallons of water were used daily, so these trucks made multiple deliveries to camp each day. Good water in, bad water out. |
(6) Massage tent, Oceano, Day 4. Three dozen massage therapists worked 10 hours/day stretching out sore, tired muscles and joints. Anyone could sign up, first come, first serve. Ahhhhh!! |
